Somerset Cider

Somerset is renowned for its delicious ciders.  We visited Burrow Hill Cider, in Martock, and sampled their dry and the medium.  We found the dry to be too tart, but the medium was perfect.

It was fascinating to see the old fashioned way it is made and stored.  Over 40 different varieties of cider apples are pressed to produce the final product!

These large vats hold over 10,000 gallons!

Although the cider farm has been in operation for 150 years, Julian Temperley has been running it for the last 40.He has the help of his faithful friend to keep the sheep in check as they 'mow' the orchard lawns.
At over 150 acres of apple trees, these sheep have their work cut out for them.

After our tasting, we HAD  to buy some to enjoy at home.

On our way home we stopped in to visit the studio of John Leach, son of the very famous potter, Bernard Leach. He has followed in his father's footsteps and produces charming pieces.
