Cordes Sur Ciel and Albi

Less than an hour away from where we were staying,
a town chartered in 1222 by the Count of Toulouse.
It clings to the top of the Puech de Mordagne and its physical location was ideal for a fortress to defend the Count’s northern territory. Standing 100 meters above the surrounding river valleys, the Mordagne peak had natural defenses in the form of
steep limestone cliffs on two sides.
A few years ago, cars were allowed to drive up the nearly vertical streets to the top, but now they are not allowed, meaning
'oh my god, not another hill to climb'!
The winding cobblestone streets are accented by many lovey arches.
Once at the top, we had to stop to for a short break.....
Sisters, Belinda and Danica
......but worth the view of the valley
It must have been a prosperous town as the buildings were ornate & gorgeous
Being very close to the Gaillac region,
a stop for local wine was in order
Our visit to Cordes was short, as we had arrangements to meet up with the rest of the family in the cathedral city of Albi for lunch
This was my second visit to this restaurant, so I knew exactly what I wanted; tartar of beef and salmon
My sister (no, I won't say which one) ordered a dessert of
 Profiteroles and chocolate sauce
(I must admit, a number of spoons helped finish it off)
Time to walk off lunch and head towards Sainte Ccecile Cathedral.
We took the scenic route by walking along the 'pedestrian only' streets lined with charming old houses.

Finally, we arrived .....what a magnificent interior!
Another fabulous day with my family.

The finale coming up......The Party!
